Fallopian tube lining. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the folded internal mucosal lining of a fallopian tube (oviduct). The surface consists of a mixture of ciliated and secretory cells. The cilia (hairs) beat rhythmically to move the ovum (egg, the female sex cell) along the fallopian tube. The ovum is produced by one of the two ovaries, and moves along the corresponding fallopian tube to reach the uterus. Magnification: x240 when printed 10cm wide.
