Ovary and fallopian tube. The ovaries produce female gametes, eggs, and hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. The fallopian tubes form the first part of the female duct system. During ovulation, the egg is released from a follicle at the surface of the ovary and finger-like projections of the fallopian tube, fimbrae, sweep it into the uterine tube where it awaits fertilization.
