Caption

Uterus and ovaries. Laparoscopic view of a normal, healthy uterus (centre, pink) and ovaries (white, bottom left and bottom right). The ovaries release an egg each month that then moves down the fallopian tubes to the uterus. If the egg is fertilised, it will implant itself into the thickened uterus lining and develop normally. If it is not fertilised, the egg passes through the uterus and out of the body, which initiates shedding of the uterus lining (menstruation).
