Cross-section through the neck of a spermatozoon. In the center of the spermatozoon are the axonemes, bundles of fibers that constitute a flagellum. Elongated mitochondria are arranged tightly in a helix outside of the spermatozoons axonemes. The mitochondria provide energy required for flagellar movement.
