Caption

Sexual intercourse. Coloured magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan in sagittal section of a couple during sexual intercourse. This is the first time MRI has been used to study intercourse. In this, the missionary position, the penis (blue) is seen to be bent in a boomerang shape. Beneath the penis, the testes can be seen (rounded). The woman's uterus is yellow (upper left). Their bladders are white, and the vertebrae of their lower backs are brown (upper left/right). This technique allows anatomical study of male and female responses to arousal. This image was made at University Hospital Groningen, The Netherlands.
