Chromosomes. Computer artwork of chromosomes. Chromosomes, which are found in all cell nuclei, contain the genetic code in the form of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). A chromosome consists of two strands (chromatids) joined in a region known as the centromere. Chromosomes can make exact copies of themselves. Apart from the sex cells and red blood cells, all human cells contain 46 chromosomes.
