Cell division. Image 3 of 4. Fluorescent light micrograph of a human (HeLa) cell dividing by mitosis, the asexual replication of a cell into two new cells. This is early telophase, the mitosis stage where the cell's genetic material has separated and the cleavage plane (centre) is forming. The genetic material comprises chromatids (dark blue), which were drawn apart by microtubule spindles (yellow/red, centre). The protein dynein (green) is involved in moving the chromatids. The image has been enhanced by a technique called deconvolution. Magnification: x2300 at 5x7cm size. For a sequence showing stages of mitosis, see images P672/078 to P672/081.
