Cell division. Image 4 of 4. Fluorescent light micrograph of a human (HeLa) cell dividing by mitosis, the asexual replication of a cell into two new cells. This is late telophase, the mitosis stage where the cell's genetic material has separated & the cleavage plane (centre) has formed between the two new cells (round). The genetic material is contained in chromatids (dark blue), which were drawn apart by microtubule spindles (yellow/red, centre). The protein dynein (green) helped to move the chromatids. The image has been enhanced by a technique called deconvolution. Magnification: x2300 at 5x7cm size. For a sequence showing mitosis, see images p672/078 to P672/081.
