Caption

Mitosis, coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM). Equatorial section through a human T cell in metaphase. During mitosis two daughter nuclei are formed from one parent nucleus. At metaphase, the chromosomes (purple) are arranged in a plane at the cell centre. Chromosomes are made up of two identical sister chromatids, which are separated into the two daughter nuclei, so that each daughter cell retains the parent cell's genetic information. Also seen here are the mitochondria (orange) and the endoplasmic reticulum (yellow).
