Cell division. Image 2 of 2. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a section through an animal cell dividing by the process of mitosis. This is the telophase stage of mitosis, the stage where the cell starts to divide into two daughter cells. Each cell will have its own set of genetic material, contained in the chromatids (dark red) that separated in the preceding anaphase stage. Mitosis is the asexual replication of a cell to produce a genetically-identical daughter cell. This is a lymphocyte (white blood cell) from mammalian bone marrow. Magnification: x5000 at 6x7cm size. For the anaphase stage of mitosis, see image P673/062.
