The head & upper body of the human foetus during the 3rd month (12-13 weeks) of development. At this time the foetus vaguely resembles the ultimate human being & growth is rapid. The lidless eyes (the dark area of the retinas are evident) are migrating from the sides of the head, with its bulging high forehead. The nostrils are widely separated & the mouth is large & slit-like (these 2 features are not seen in this image). The upper limbs are well differentiated into forearms, wrists, hands & fingers; these develop at a faster rate than the lower limbs, a feature which continues even after birth.
