Foetus research. Artwork of a foetus surrounded by chromosomes. Chromosomes (yellow) contain DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), the substance responsible for carrying genetic information from parents to their offspring. By studying the chromosomes of a foetus, information about its health can be revealed. Chromosomal disorders such as Down's syndrome and Turner's syndrome can be detected before birth, and the parents counselled and informed of the circumstances.
