Nine and a half week old foetus. Coloured ultrasound scan of a 9 and a half week old healthy foetus in the womb, seen in side view. The foetus body appears pink, floating in the dark blue amniotic sac. The uterus wall appears green. The crown-rump length (sitting height) of a foetus aged 9 weeks is about 5 centimetres and its weight about 10 grams. Ultrasound scanning uses high- frequency sound waves to obtain an image of the foetus in the uterus, and is a useful diagnostic tool to confirm foetal age and to detect any malformations.
