Leg of foetus. Coloured ultrasound scan of the leg of an 18 week old foetus. The body of the foetus is at lower left, with the foot at upper right. The leg is very thin compared to its length, as there is no subcutaneous fat. At 4.5 months (18 weeks) the foetus may just be starting to move around. The foetus at this time is typically about 15 centimetres long, and weighs around 300 grams. All the major limbs and organs are formed by 4.5 months, and the remainder of the time spent in the uterus is growing and developing fat and muscle.
