Reproduction. Artwork showing human reproduction, from ovulation to implantation. The egg (oocyte) develops inside a graafian follicle in the ovary (yellow, upper centre) and is released into the fallopian tube (pink, upper right) at ovulation. It is penetrated by a sperm (spermatozoon) as it travels down the tube towards the womb (uterus, far left), forming a zygote. The zygote divides, increasing in cell number. As it enters the uterus it forms a hollow blastocyst (enlargement, lower right) and implants in the blood-enriched uterine lining (endometrium).
