Caption

Computer generated images based on micro magnetic resonance imaging data revealing embryonic brain segments. The smooth surface of the embryonic brain contrasts with the convoluted surface of the adult brain, made up of sulci (grooves) and gyri (ridges) of the cerebral cortex. During the seventh month of pregnancy, a relatively unwrinkled foetal brain becomes convoluted.
