Adrenal gland. Light micrograph of a section through a healthy human adrenal gland. This is the zona glomerulosa the upper zone of the adrenal gland's cortex (outer layer). The cells are arranged in irregular, ovoid clumps separated by connective tissue. The zona glomerulosa is mostly made up of secretory cells, these are round with darkly stained nuclei and relatively little cytoplasm. These cells secrete the hormone aldosterone, which regulates the body's blood pressure and the sodium & potassium ion levels. Magnification unknown.
