Prostate gland. Computer illustration of a section through the human prostate gland and it's enclosed urethra. This gland produces secretions that make up the fluid in semen. Part of the urinary bladder is seen at top. The chestnut-shaped prostate gland (at centre) is a large gland found in men that surrounds the neck of the bladder and its urethral tube. The urethra is seen running from top to bottom frame and carries both urine and semen. The prostate consists of glandular tissue embedded in fibromuscular cells. Its outer zone produces seminal secretions, while an inner zone produces secretions which keep the lining of the urethra moist.
