Prostate gland. Illustration of a section through the human prostate gland and bladder. The prostate gland (blue) is a large male gland that surrounds the neck of the bladder (at upper centre) and its urethral tube. Part of the pelvic bone structure, the symphysis pubis (yellow) can be seen to the left of the prostate. The urethra carries both urine and semen out through the penis (partially seen at centre left). Semen is a mixture of sperm, from one of the testicles (red, at bottom), and secretions from the prostate. The sperm reach the prostate through one of the two tubular vasa deferentia. The prostate also produces secretions to keep the lining of the urethra moist.
