Caption

Thermogram. Coloured thermogram of a naked couple standing beside each other. Thermography is a technique for visualising skin and body temperatures. The colours represent different temperatures: from black (coolest) to pink, yellow and white (warmest). Skin temperature reflects the volume of blood supply across parts of the body, and can highlight a variety of circulatory dysfunctions. Long-wavelength infrared radiation is emitted by the skin in proportion to the skin temperature. This heat radiation is detected electronically by a thermographic camera, and processed to give a thermogram image.
