Healthy male chest. Axial section through the lower chest (thorax) and arms of a male body, showing internal anatomy in natural colours. This is part of the Visible Human Project. The front of the chest is at top. White fat occurs under the skin. The arms, at the sides, contain the humerus upper arm bone surrounded by brown muscle. Four groups of muscles occur around the ribcage; a spine bone (triangular) is at lower centre. The two lungs (dark brown) occupy most space in the ribcage; at upper centre is the heart with inner chambers. The Visible Human Project is a US project to archive a male & female body, sectioned into slices, for medical research and education.
