Body organs. Illustration of a human torso showing the lungs, heart, and digestive system. In the thorax are the lungs (pink) between which lies the heart with its major blood vessels. The digestive system or gut is located in the abdomen. Here, the triangular-shaped liver lobes (at centre) produce and regulate blood chemicals. To the right of the liver is the stomach which stores & breaks down food; the pancreas (yellow) overlies the stomach. The small intestine (convoluted loops, lower centre) leads from the stomach and digests and absorbs food. Around the small intestine is the large intestine concerned mainly with the adsorption of water and production of faeces.
