Body imaging. Composite image of several methods used to visualise the anatomy of the human body. The techniques seen here are computed tomography (CT) and artworks. An artwork of veins (orange) outlines the whole body. This dates from around 1494 and was taken from the Anatomical Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci. His mirror writing (upper left) is seen. Other artworks show the heart, lungs and digestive system. The lower half of the skull is a three-dimensional (3-D) CT scan. CT scanning uses X-rays to obtain slice images of the human body that can be arranged to produce 3-D images. The technique may be used to diagnose medical disorders.
