Identical twins. Four-year-old identical twin boys standing together. Genetically identical (monozygotic) twins arise from a single fertilised egg of the mother which splits into two cells, to produce two offspring. Although one twin is often much bigger than the other at birth, they are always of the same sex and look remarkably alike.
