Triplets. Non-identical eleven year old triplets sitting together. In their mother's womb they were conceived simultaneously but developed from three separate eggs (ova). Non- identical triplets develop independently of one another and so each has their own placenta. Triplets occur in about one in 8000 pregnancies. Non-identical triplets are more likely to occur in older women, in women who have had many previous pregnancies, women who have a family history of triplets and those on fertility treatment.
