Junk food. An adolescent girl eating a hamburger and drinking Coca Cola. Snacks and "junk" foods such as hamburgers, chips, biscuits, sweets and soft drinks are often considered unhealthy, particularly if consumed in large quantities. They may contain high levels of sugars which can cause dental caries, or saturated fats which, if eaten in excess, can cause obesity and raise the risk of heart disease. Such foods also contain little in the way of vitamins, minerals, protein or fibre. Fibre is necessary for maintaining healthy intestinal function.
