Speargun hunter diving over a coral reef with a speargun (in right hand). The hunter is wearing flippers and a mask, but no breathing equipment. The lack of breathing equipment makes it easier to stalk the prey, but requires the hunter to use freediving techniques, diving and swimming on a single deep breath. A speargun fires a spear that will impale its target. The spear remains attached to the speargun, preventing the prey from escaping. Photographed off Rangiroa Atoll, part of French Polynesia, in the Pacific Ocean.
