Rock climber climbing an angled rock face. This type of angle in rock is known as an 'open book' in climbing terminology. The climbing technique seen here is known as top roping. The rope is threaded through an anchor point at the top of the route, providing security from above. The other end of the rope is attached to a person belaying at the foot of the rock (not seen) who controls the slack of the rope and stops it slipping should the climber fall.
