Athlete movement research. Computer screen display of a wire-frame footballer kicking a ball. This image is derived from the real movements of a footballer in an adjacent room. He is wearing reflective tags which allow cameras to map body movements. By adding information on his skeleton and musculature, researchers can see if certain actions are likely to cause injuries. Treatments of sports injuries may also be improved through this method. Study of body movements may allow athletes to improve their techniques at a variety of sports. This motion analysis system was desig- ned by Oxford Metrics for the Department of Sports Science, University of Wales at Swansea, Wales.
