Sports footwear testing. Sports trainer during a humidity test to assess how easily sweat is lost from the trainer. The socks, mounted on models of a foot, have inbuilt sensors which are seen both on the socks and the screen (right). The sensors monitor both temperature and humidity. Water is added to the socks which are placed in the trainer and exposed to different air conditions from the tube at upper right. Using good ventilation in the design of a trainer can aid loss of sweat, which keeps an athlete's foot cool and relatively dry. Photographed at the Adidas research centre in Scheinfeld, Germany.
