Pit toilet in a rural village. This toilet was constructed by a village community in Bangladesh. It is a sanitary method of collecting human waste in areas where there is no sewage system. The waste is controlled and decomposed into by- products. It is often used in rural areas and throughout the developing world. Photographed in 2006.
