This reflector telescope, designed and manufactured by the John Brashears telescope company, was constructed from 1914. It began operating in 1918, and at the time was the second-largest telescope in the world. The project was overseen by the Canadian astronomer John Stanley Plaskett (1865-1941), who became the first director of the DAO.
