Keck telescope domes. Domes of the American Keck I and II telescopes on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, USA. The Japanese 8.3-metre optical-infrared Subaru telescope is at far left. The optical telescopes of Keck I and II each have a 10 metre diameter mirror, which can be used together to provide more detailed images. Mauna Kea, a dormant 4200-metre- high volcano, has several telescopes on its summit.
