Canada-France-Hawaii telescope (CFHT) silhouetted against star trails centred on the Polaris star. This telescope is situated at an altitude of 4200 metres on the Mauna Kea volcano, Hawaii, USA. At this altitude the telescope is above most of the cloud and turbulent air, making the site one of the world's best for astronomy. This image was taken using a long exposure, creating the circular streaks of light. These result from the rotation of the Earth in relation to the fixed stars.
