The United Kingdom Schmidt Telescope (UKST) at Siding Spring, Australia. It consists of a spherical primary mirror with a diameter of 1. Schmidt telescopes are virtually free from light aberrations & are characterised by a large observational field. UKST covers about 40 square degrees of sky & is mainly used for systematic sky surveys for objects such as quasars. It is operated by the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh.
