Caption

Hubble Space Telescope. The vast Hubble Space Telescope (HST) seen shortly after capture by Shuttle Endeavour at the start of the first HST servicing mission, STS-61. This photo was taken as the crew manipulated the HST to allow ground controllers to study its exterior. In a subsequent series of five spacewalks, the crew of the Shuttle replaced one of the HST's cameras and its solar panels, installed a corrective optics package and completed many other servicing tasks. Mission STS- 61 flew on 2-13 December 1993.
