View of the engineering model of the Exosat X-ray astronomy satellite during construction. The satellite was built by the European Space Agency (ESA) and was launched on 26 May, 1983. During its three-year operational lifetime, it studied X-ray emissions from X- ray binaries, supernova remnants, active galaxies, clusters of galaxies and stellar coronae.
