Huygens probe deployment. Artwork depicting the Huygens probe being deployed by the Cassini spacecraft near Saturn. Cassini is designed to study Saturn and its system of rings and moons, building on data from the Pioneer and Voyager missions. The Huygens probe will be used to investigate the atmosphere of Titan, by far the largest of the moons. Cassini and Huygens are due for launch in August 1997. Using several fly-bys of Venus, Earth and Jupiter, Cassini will arrive at Saturn in June 2004. After deploying Huygens, the main body of the spacecraft will enter a complex orbit pattern around Saturn.
