Sun colliding with a white dwarf. Image 1 of 2. Artwork of a hypothetical collision between the Sun (orange) and a white dwarf star (blue, upper right). A white dwarf is an extremely dense star formed at the end of a star's life. Its approach has caused the shape of the Sun to be distorted. Such a collision would almost certainly destroy the Sun, which would end all life in the Solar System. For an image of the aftermath of this collision, see R301/041.
