Meteor. Optical image of a meteor track (upper right) in the night sky and reflected in a lake. A meteor, or shooting star, is a tiny particle of dust that enters the Earth's atmosphere from space at a speed that can range from 35-95 kilometres per second. Air resistance heats the particle, making it visible as a streak of light. The glow of an aurora (solar-induced electromagnetic storm) is seen on the horizon. Photographed in Finland.
