Octahedrite meteorite. This is a type of iron meteorite. This one consists of a mineral called siderite. This sample has been cut open and polished to reveal lines known as patterns of Widmanstatten. Also seen are inclusions of a mineral known as troilite. This meteorite was found near Saint Aubin, near Aube, France. The sample weighs 818 grams. It is a thin section, measuring 19 by 12 by 0.5 centimetres in size.
