Asteroid 87 Sylvia and its moons, Yepun Very Large Telescope image. The moons are shown in various positions around 87 Sylvia (centre). Sylvia is around 260 kilometres long. Romulus, its outer moon, was discovered in February 2001. It is 18 kilometres wide and orbits 1360 kilometres from Sylvia. Remus, the inner moon, was discovered in August 2005. It is only seven kilometres wide and orbits just 710 kilometres from Sylvia.
