Chiron. Computer artwork of the asteroid 2060 Chiron (centre), Saturn (upper left) and the Sun (centre left). Chiron, which is about 300 kilometres in diameter, was discovered in 1977. Its orbit is between those of Saturn and Uranus, classifying it as a centaur. Due to its coma (cloud of dust and gas) Chiron is also classed as a comet. It is thought that Chiron is an escaped Kuiper belt object.
