The moon showing an orange colour during the totality of the lunar eclipse of October 27, 2004. A total eclipse occurs when the moon moves completely into the shadow of the Earth, blocking the direct sunlight that normally illuminates a full moon. Some light still filters through the Earths atmosphere, which produces an orange colour.
