Caption

Photograph of the eastern portion of the waning, gibbous Moon. The edge of the Mare Nectaris can be seen crossing the terminator (day-night boundary) to the right of the centre of the photo. The prominent crater with the central peak on its western edge is Theophilus. Below and to the right of the centre of the image is the Altai Escarpment. At the end of the escarpment, just short of the terminator, is the crater Piccolomini. The large crater above Piccolomini, on the edge of the Mare Nectaris, is Fracastorius. See back of print 01 for technical details.
