Lunar surface. This image, which covers about 360 kilometres from top to bottom, was the first picture taken of the moon by a US spacecraft. It was taken by the Ranger 7 spacecraft on 31 July 1964. The large crater at centre right is the Alphonsus crater, below it is Arzachel and above it is Ptolemaeus.
