False-colour scanning electron micrograph of the surface of a spherical particle of glassy lunar dust, showing a tiny micrometeorite impact crater. The heat caused by the impact has melted some of the "glass" & droplets of the molten material have been splashed outwards and have re-solidified around the impact site. This sample of lunar soil was brought back from the Moon by the Apollo 15 astronauts. Magnification: x1,800 at 8x10, x315 at 35mm size.
