Caption

False-colour image of Olympus Mons, the giant extinct volcano on Mars, derived from photographs taken by the Viking Orbiter 1. The false colours in this image exaggerate very subtle differences in the volcano's accumulated lava flows. Olympus Mons is the largest known volcano in the Solar System, rising 26,400 metres above Mars' average elevation.
