Mars, optical image. This image was taken when Mars was 68 million kilometres from Earth. The Martian summer in the northern hemisphere results in a large south polar ice cap (white, bottom). Two seasonal dust storms can be seen, one at top centre and one over the Hellas impact basin at lower right. Photographed on 26 June 2001 by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope.
