Martian surface, Mars Express satellite image. Surface of Mars showing the Ruell Vallis channel, which was created in the past when water flowed on the planet. This area is to the east of the Hellas Basin. This image was taken from a height of 273km on 15 January 2004 by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board Mars Express. The area measures 100km across and North is at top.
